Age NI Kilkeel Benefit from the Northern Ireland Executive Social Investment Fund Community Projects

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council is managing the Northern Ireland Executive Social Investment fund (SIF), Southern Zone ‘Work It’ training and employment programme. This community project programme offers eligible participants the opportunity to undertake work experience in an occupational area of their choice.

During the ‘Work It’ programme, participants assist in the delivery of Community Projects across the district and volunteer to help deliver community led initiatives.

One of the participants in the programme, Aimee Boyd, assisted in the delivery of a Community project to benefit Age NI Kilkeel. This involved working with the organisation to purchase materials for an extended Arts programme. This programme within the centre will provide a series of activities including arts, crafts and painting to those who frequent it.

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Gillian Fitzpatrick highlighted that, “Through schemes like ‘Work It’, we can encourage people back into work and through the Community Projects we can promote local volunteering. Newry, Mourne and Down District has a broad range of community activities and we need to encourage people to give time to support these projects. I would like to congratulate the volunteers of Age NI for taking part in this initiative; it is great to see local people enjoying the community projects being delivered through the ‘Work It’ programme.”
